Something really rare that occurs to me occurred to me just a while ago when I was patiently waiting for my vanilla cake to bake in the oven. And omfg, I can never forget about what happened. & I've no idea why I'm laughing right now. Maybe at myself? When I bake, I tend to use baking paper to cover cake tin because I think it's a waste of time to butter the mould because you can avoid washing it simply with the use of baking paper which makes your life so much easier! And just sometime earlier today, I was taking out my cake happily out of the oven and when I cut a small part open, it was not fully baked. So I happily put it back into the oven and I did NOT notice that the baking paper was touching the metal rod that the oven heats up to emit the heat or whatever that bakes the cake. And yes, you can kind of guess what happened right now. I left it for around 5 minutes before pulling the rack slightly out but it was too hot so I simply turned my back to it for like 3 sec? And when I grabbed a second cloth and turned around.... The baking paper was on fire. YES, ON FIRE! Now that I look back, I tend to laugh to myself because when it was in flames I was not panicking like an idiot but I was just too calm as I simply grabbed the largest bowl in the kitchen to take water.
Without hesitation, I just splashed the water on my entire oven and whoooosh! My oven was out of fire and I was more amazed by the power of the water than relieved that the kitchen was not burnt down. But of course, I'm glad that I'm still alive and nothing is destroyed in my house. ;) Wow, what an adventure right? I can't believe I'm like here so calm to blog about this and I keep thinking about and laughing to myself. I'm not a lousy ass in the kitchen but this time was really careless of me. I've never encountered anything like this and you can say it was a potential-life-threatening experience. Hais. I'm having mixed feelings right now thinking about it in that way. BUT, the lesson I've learnt today is not to use baking paper anymore. So what if I have to wash the mould. I guess I didn't because of my most-used excuse, I'm lazy. ;) I've no idea what my mum would do when she gets home and hears about it, perhaps ban me from ever stepping into the kitchen ever again? I'm just gonna think about how to break it to her for the next few minutes because she should be home soon. Haha. Oh and in case anyone is wondering, my cake got busted too. It came out with burnt sides. I won't even eat it even if it was still in proper condition anyways. The fire made me so disgusted of it so I'm glad it was busted so that I won't feel so sad. Imagine that your cake is still nice and done but you hesitate to eat it because a fire occurred right beside it and ashes may have dropped on it. That's definitely worse lah. Will definitely be careful next time. Amusing to me but not something that I ever should repeat again. Signing off!
