Sick part TWO

34
Hi, I'm not going to fill you in on how bad I'm feeling right now because I bet it's really boring. Yes, I said right now because right at this moment on the 4th day of my horrible fever, I'm still not getting better. I'm taking MC from work again. To my dismay :(

As I said, I'm not going to fill in on my condition and if I haven't mention before, I have Viral Fever so if any reader (touchwood) happens to face the same thing as me in the future, you would know what to expect or do.

& if you are perfectly fine now, don't think you'll forever be (but also touchwood lah) because I am someone who does NOT get sick easily and I have not seen a doctor since... 4-5 years ago? Even my mummy was super shocked because this is the first time I'm so sick in my life :/

So my super kiasu mummy decided to bring me to see doctors 3 days in a row. 1st day was a family doctor, 2nd was the hospital doctor (CGH) & the 3rd is a Chinese Physician (just this morning). What I really want to talk about in this post is Venepuncture

In case you don't know what is venepuncture, it is blood drawing for laboratory testing for several conditions. Usually 2 tubes of blood is taken and mine was drawn last night to test for dengue fever.

Yeah and I know what is venepuncture because of internship.
Hurray I learnt something useful!

I was suppose to go for blood test yesterday morning but I was feeling fine so I stupidly skipped it. I mean felt perfectly fine! But in late afternoon, it got really really bad. Yes, I was stupid to not go for blood test just to play safe. So my mum decided to take me to the hospital :(

It was a long wait but hey, the doctor was really young and cute! Gahahahaha. I had done blood donation once and the nurses tend to have a really hard time to find my vein. This young doctor, was no exception.

He poked my left arm first and there was no blood at all. So he tried on my right hand. While he was apologizing, I was so evil I asked him "so, what if this time you cannot find the vein again? You're going to keep poking until you find it?"

But he did anyway with the second try. It wasn't pain, if you're wondering. Haha. I've seen it at my intern work so I don't find it scary but I found it fascinating! It's like the needle was in my arm and he just inserted a tube to this thing attached to the needle and blood was coming out so quickly! Within 10 seconds, it was done!

The bad thing was, I had to keep the needle in my arm while I wait for my blood test result. DON'T ASK ME WHY, I HAVE NO IDEA AS WELL. But it's really uncomfortable and I waited like more than 2 hours with it because there were many people running blood tests as well.

Oh gosh, when I saw so many people right there, I was quite overwhelmed. Many young people who looked around my age too. To everyone out there, stay healthy please. You won't want to be like me, stuck in the hospital waiting for blood test results at night.

Thank god my dear sister reads the news daily and she told me that there have been 2 deaths with dengue so far in Singapore. So for the first time in my life, because it concerns me, I actually bothered to google for news on dengue. And I found that every week, more and more dengue cases are detected. And more and more I mean like hundreds more :(

Could I be one of them? This was one of the things that made me scared. It doesn't end there. Usually people will think that such stuff only happens to older people because they would have weaker immune systems and stuff. This is SO NOT TRUE!

In case you do not know, the 1st dengue DEATH in Singapore was a 20 year old guy. Yes, and that's an age close to mine. This may happen to anyone. ANYONE.

The thing that made me more scared was that he was diagnosed with VIRAL FEVER before dengue. WHICH IS THE SAME FREAKING THING AS ME!

Yes, I was really afraid last night while waiting for my results. BUT, in the end, the doctor said it's too early for detection for my case. So I felt a little cheated lah. I waited so long and they tell me it's too early to tell. Which means I have to test again if the fever persists the next few days I guess? Which I hope is NOT THE CASE. I WANT TO GET BETTER ASAP.

So to you readers out there, please take care. Keep yourself hydrated and healthy. Okay, I'm not going to nag like how my mother nagged to me cus I know it's annoying hahaha.

To everyone who have gave me get well soon wishes, thank you so much. I appreciate each and every wish and I will try my best to have a speedy recovery.

Signing off! :)
