I am writing in the view of a non-book reader of the series and someone who has watched the entire Lord Of The Rings series film and the first movie of The Hobbit.
In the beginning the movie was really draggy and at some points I just frowned and thought that some parts were not so necessary. The bad thing about the movie is that the running time of approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes was too long with too many draggy parts which shows that it could have been a shorter and nicer show.
Like the first movie, The Hobbit is full of nerve wrecking moments where the main characters are like one or two steps away from being squashed or killed or roasted. Not to mention the new characters introduced that really stand out are:
Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel
Omg she is super super pretty!
Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman
As always, the fighting sequences in the movie were awesome and the CGI that they used for the dragon Smaug was really good. The fire, the movement of the dragon and the movement of the huge amounts of coins (spoiler a bit) just splattering all over the place, I can just imagine how much effort was put in to make it all so real.
Sometimes you see these in movies too but it would all have a certain degree of look that just makes it so fake when it appears but this did not happen in The Hobbit which was a huge plus point because the Smaug the dragon has such a major role in the movie.
Overall, it's a rather average action movie as compared to the other films. I would say it's about the same standard as the first movie. It's not bad, but it's also not so extraordinary.
