So one of the hot topics lately have been about Stephanie Koh and her "bad" attitude. I saw it over at Facebook and Twitter and the radio was talking about it over and over when I was doing my projects in school. If you're still blur about what is all this news going about, it's simply about a girl who managed to represent Singapore in a kpop competition known as 'K-pop Star 3'. She managed to last until the top 4 but did not win in the end. Before the competition, she was a Youtuber who uploaded covers of songs and her cover of 'Gangnam Style' had over 10 million hits.
That's not really news right? What made her under fire was her attitude and that she said that she was "not proud of being a Singaporean". Check out the video right here. At first, I was looking at the video with a frown and went like "wth??" with a blank face lololol. The part that threw me off was the part that she said she considers herself as "one of a kind". Immediately all I said was "WHATTTTT!?!?!?" Honestly, I had a really bad impression of her when I finished the video because I thought she looked very arrogant because she could sing (I guess?) and she's kind of average-to-pretty looking. I thought that such a girl would not get far in her career no matter where she goes. The news spread really quickly and I found out just two days ago. In response, she released a 13 minute video on Youtube. I just viewed it in school a couple of hours ago and man, it totally changed my perception of her. When I first heard about the part about not being proud as a Singaporean in the previous video, it threw me on the path of disliking what she ever said after that and all but I never thought of WHY she would say something like that. The video made by her explained her words during the interview about Singaporeans and I just realized, WHAT SHE SAYS IS ACTUALLY REALLY TRUE. You can check it out right here.
"In Singapore, you gotta admit, every single one of us are homework robots.
We get home,
we sit down at the table,
we finish our homework,
we go for dinner,
we have a shower,
we go to bed. That's it.
This is the Singaporean daily schedule and it's shit.
Majority of Singaporean parents just believe that this is the path that my kid has to take. This is what my kid has to do to be a successful person in life."
OMG WHAT SHE SAID (THESE TWO QUOTES ABOVE) IS LIKE SO GOD DAMN TRUE.
Let me repeat to say that when I first got to know her through the news video, I thought that she was arrogant and takes things around her for granted. But the points she made was actually really true about how life is in Singapore. The video was so truthful that it made me speechless! And now, I actually think I would support her hahahah. Well, not every point I would agree to with her but I think she's really brave as as she mentioned in her video, there is a chance that she may be getting into trouble for this. Even though what they say may sound nasty but I actually love such honest people who dares to say out their own opinion with good reason regardless of the consequences. I mean, the truth hurts so people just have to suck it up right? After listening to her, I felt that she had given people a voice because I believe from almost 60% of the comments of her video were people supporting her and thanking her for giving them a voice as not just anyone can be brave enough to say it all like that. Don't get me wrong, in this post, I am not completely leaning on her side but I really do admire her in a way. Judge her in any way you want but after watching her video, I truly respect her. Hope that this news dies down soon and she doesn't get too much hate for her honest opinions. Of course, she may have faults too over the whole kpop star thing but no one is perfect right?
