Just a little two piece of what I have been thinking lately. I think that most of us would agree that sometimes we compare ourselves a little too much with those around us.
We compare grades, family, connections, skill, money and many other stuff. And sometimes all these comparisons become really unhealthy which leads to negative feelings toward that person or even to ourselves. We may start wondering why can't we achieve or have the same things as others.
I think it's human nature to feel that way and we can't really change the fact that we do envy others from time to time. But, we can control the way we respond to it.
If things did not work out the same way for you, learn to accept it. If you couldn't or don't have whatever that is that you want, maybe it is just not meant to be so you should just move on to find other things that may suit you better.
Also remember to never judge too quickly. You may look at a friend who seem to have everything (family, a nice house, money, cars etc) but all that is on the surface and no one really knows what lies underneath all that.
Take Michael Phelps for example. Upon announcing his retirement after this year's Olympics, he confessed that he attempted suicide a couple of years back. Even after being such a popular and amazing athlete with outstanding achievements (23 medals), he felt that maybe the world would be better off without him. He had no self-esteem, no self-worth and he was lost back then. This is clear prove that even if you have so much accomplishments in your life, it is still possible to fall back into the negative hole that clouds your mind.
So it's not worth comparing yourself with the people around you. By doing so, you will never be contented with what you already have. Everyone goes through different challenges in their lives and we should not compare because at the end of the day, we are all made to be different.
And what do you actually get out of comparing yourself with others? Of course, there is the good side where you take these people as inspirations and a source to push yourself to work harder for what you want. But with the way the world is moving forward today, I have seen and have experienced it for myself. It is really easy to be led astray by your thoughts and negative emotions like envy. But always remember to look back every once in awhile at the things that you already have. Be it family, friends, loved ones or items. Remember to cherish all that because while you're wishing that you have what others have, remember that there are others who look at you in the same way too.
