My Hair Journey Part I

34
THIS POST...
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER RIGHT?

If you guys have popped by my social media, you would've noticed that I've took a drastic step with my hair a while ago... Yeah by a while ago I mean last year HAHAHA.

Nearing the end of October last year, I had already left my part-time job and it was about 2 weeks before my 21st birthday party. My mom offered to sponsor me for a makeover for my birthday and you guys would probably know, who am I to turn down such an opportunity right? Okay, don't misunderstand, I'm not a spoilt brat.

It took me super duper long to decide what I wanted. Back then, I have already tried red, dark blue, purple, pink (faded) and the usual brown.

& with the boring life of full-time working that's coming in around year 2017-2018, I felt the need to spice things up with my hair before the opportunity is gone.

So I just thought: Why not right...?

I went to Vintage Studio hair salon at Bedok Point and after some discussion with the stylist, I finally decided to go for grey and blue. It was a long 6 hour session in the salon and honestly, not really a smooth and peaceful process.

This was the result. Taken on the same day I dyed my hair. The result was totally not as I expected because the grey turned out greenish. I still accepted it because it was still something different and after the next few days, I did get used to it and I began to love it.

BUT!

Just a little honest sharing about my first (& most likely last) visit to Vintage Studio...
It was a really unpleasant visit for me. To achieve the colours I wanted, my hair had to undergo 2 times bleach before the colour dyes. The bleach was no problem but when the dye was applied, it really hit my scalp bad and I sat in my chair suffering from a painful burning sensation for almost 45 minutes. I informed the stylist and was already sort of angry that he did not mention about the possible pain beforehand. He told me that it's just like that and did not seem to care.

It was only then when I understood what people mean when they say it hurts to dye your hair when you also bleach it. I have bleached my hair before and it never hurt like it did that time. But oh well, what's done was done.

My scalp condition was the worse I have ever had after the visit and there were bits and pieces of skin/scalp (not sure what it was exactly) that peeled off my head for the next few days. Thank god that it was only for a short period after that dreadful day.

The colour faded extremely fast in about a week. Yeah yeah, I know such colours don't last long and I learnt to accept it in the end. I didn't think that the result was that bad too and blonde wasn't in my list of achievements yet then.

This was the result after 2.5 weeks and the colours were all gone without a trace on my hair.

Not wanting to spend a bomb and risk the condition of my hair to another salon, I decided to turn to a DIY dye. Pretty sure most of you guys would know about DIRECTIONS hair dye that can be found in any toy outpost or Venus stores. I got my hands on the tubs from the Instagram blogshop @partypocket.

Of course, I did read some reviews from the blogshop before I decided to give it a go. From the list of colours I've not tried, I took a bold step to try out something very different on my 21st birthday (oh my god that felt so long ago).

This was taken 1 or 2 days after dye-ing
I used the shade Midnight Blue
Yes, I know the shade looks different from the sample
Of course it depends on your previous hair shade

As expected, the blue did not last and I got even more greedy to try out another bold shade. Oh no no, I tried out 2 different shades next.

Of course, the shade looks different under different lighting
It's so hard for me to point out which is the more accurate shade also hahah
The base shade was Plum and the inner highlights was Rose Red

And the colours faded to...

No, this is not a joke guys. Both times from the Midnight Blue and Plum, it faded off as a turquoise-ish green. I have no idea how the hair anatomy works but I guess its because there were really stubborn green pigments?

By the way, for anyone interested to know, my hair colours from the DIRECTIONS hair dye lasted about 1-1.5 months before fading off completely. It did not really damage my hair and I guess that is because it works kind of like a hair "stain". It was really easy to use and apply too. Colour payoff was amazing so I would recommend it to anyone who's trying to be adventurous.

Even though this is not my currently hair colour now, I think I'll end this post right here first. I've a hair appointment tomorrow and I'm really excited because I'm gonna be trying out something really new to me. Of course, I'm also excited to share about it soon. But for now, let's put it on hold first ;)

Stay tuned! ;)
XOXO
