My Hair Journey Part II

34
Picking up from where I left off before...

This post was meant to be out shortly after my previous hair post but I thought that it would a good idea to hold it off a little because I wanted to wait a little to see how my hair is after I dyed it previously.

If you haven't read part one, check it out here

All in all, there were not many cons about using the DIY dyes before but I noticed that my hair was beginning to get really dry and the tones where kind of uneven so I figured that it was time to leave my hair to the hands of a professional.

I found a home based salon on Instagram and coincidentally its located in the same neighbourhood as me! What are the odds. So with a quick exchange of Whatsapp messages, I booked my first appointment with @hairinndehouse!

Left - my green hair with horrendous roots
Right - finished look by Carrie (@hairinndehouse)
The curls made my hair look really long

What she did from left to right:
Cut (small changes)
Double bleach my black roots
Strip down the green colour with bleaching powder
Apply 3 shades of colour dye
Treatment

The green was really stubborn so Carrie had to strip it down before she could even do anything else. Now that I think of it, thank god that period with green is over hahahaha. I was so amazed by the final look! I told her I wanted a very bold and vibrant look and she gave me an amazing ash grey with blue and purple highlights!

Holy shit I was so happy!

Time to camwhore ttm already
(Under different lighting)

And of course, the colours will fade in time and usually the faded colour is just horrendous but mine faded off to a very ashy tone of blonde! It was super gorgeous (lol look at me praising my own hair but yeah~) and I did see girls dye-ing their hair just to get this faded colour of mine.

Props to Carrie for adding additional ashy tone to my dye because I mentioned I love it!

Ashy tones FTW!

So back then when I mentioned I had an appointment and that I was gonna try something new, I was inspired by what I saw on pinterest. The rainbow craze has also been all over the internet (facebook, Instagram etc) so I just thought: why not!? I mean, I've practically tried almost every single possible colour already so why not just have all of them?

Guy Tang is freakin' amazing

And I saw Carrie posting her work on Instagram and she did help her other customers with rainbow-ish hair so I requested for it as well. She recommended me to try out the new rose series and I just said okay. Hahah I guess I trust that she knows what I would like.

She asked me to choose 5 colours that I like but I didn't really decide much before I went for my appointment in the end. She chose all the colours for me anyways hahah.

So she pulled out the folder with the hair colour samples and showed me the rose series and I immediately just told her to just go for it in whatever way she wanted. Hahahah I didn't mind any of those shades!

They are sooooooo gorgeous!

SO THIS WAS THE END RESULT!

Colours in play (7 in total):
Ash grey
Violet blue
Ocean blue
Burgundy
Mermaid blue (rose series)
Rose red (rose series)
Rose blue (rose series)

I super love it! Tho when I look at my own hair, I can't identify which colour is which except for rose red lmao.

It wasn't rainbow but I love those colours more than the colours of the rainbow so yayyyyy. A little Harley Quinn and galaxy inspired. My left fringe highlight focuses on a bright purple and rose red on the right. The mermaid blue (that is like blue-greenish) is mostly on the back and the ash grey and rose blue on my fringe (lol I don't know if I'm even getting it right).

Colours still staying strong after 2 weeks

Still staying strong after 3 weeks!
The inner colours and the rose red beginning to fade
But I still love the look keke

FAQ:

How much did I spend?
For my first visit (purple, grey and blue) , I paid SGD$118 net for cutting, double bleaching to touch up my black roots, bleaching to strip off the green colour, 3 hair dyes and treatment.
For the second visit (7 shades), I paid SGD$108 net for cutting, double bleaching to touch up black roots and 7 shades of hair dyes.

Yes, it a fraction of normal salon prices because Carrie is amazing. She even gave me and YL free chocolate icecream on bread. Yumz.

How long did the whole dye-ing process take?
It was a 4-5 hour long process and I think the results was super worth it. All I did was eat, sleep and talk to YL and tadahhhh~

After dye-ing so many times in a row, how is my hair condition?
I'm not going to lie about this. But my hair is in a pretty bad condition right now.

The state it was in was one of the reasons why I swooped from DIY dyes to a salon. It was better during my first visit to Carrie after I got treatment.
But I couldn't get it when I got 7 shades because I think it will affect the colours so right now it's crazy dry and I'm honestly having a little issue with hair dropping. Currently still trying to manage by using some products!

What do you do to make the colours on your hair stay longer?
Honestly, this is the question that I get most. Since I'm going to be entering working life in about 6-7 months time, this is probably one of the last time I'll be doing something so drastic to my hair (sadly...). So of course I'm going to try to make it last as long as possible.

I read some tips from @hairinndehouse's Instagram and I decided to wait for a few days before having my first hair wash after my appointment so the colour can settle better.

This was a huge challenge because I flew off to Bangkok on day 3 after having my hair done. Pretty sure everyone knows how mad hot it can be there! I waited for 5 whole days before having my first wash. Yeah, I'm also pretty impressed by how long I could withstand not washing it. Hahah (don't say yucks). I kept my hair up in a bun throughout my trip so that disgusting neck sweat would not touch it.

The big solution to all that was... dry shampoo! I depended so much on it when I was in Bangkok. After I came back from my trip, I only washed my hair once every 2 days using colour shampoo and conditioner. I think those products really helped to keep the colour in check.

For those who wanna know what products I use in detail:
For the dryness of my hair: LIESE's Hair Cocktail to moisten the tips
Colour shampoo: PHYTO Phytocitrus Colour Protect Radiance Shampoo
Colour conditioner: PHYTO Phytobaume Colour Protect Express Conditioner
Both shampoo and conditioner is orange tagged by PHYTO and can easily be found at VENUS stores at pretty affordable prices.

Honestly, I'm pretty impressed that my hair colours are not fading off fast. I've gone for pretty bold colours before but this time it really seems to be holding off really well. Probably because I took Carrie's advice on how to wash my hair.

And I guess this is the end of my hair journey post. It has been a really long journey and honestly I think I'm satisfied and ready to go back to more natural colours next. No more worrying about damaging my hair and long sitting hours while waiting for my hair to be done.

Oh wells, we'll see ;)

Until next time,
XOXO
