Really really excited to be sharing this with you guys. Most of you would probably have already heard or tried an Escape Room before. If not, this is your chance!
Besides the common bowling, playing pool or going to the movies, Escape Games have recently been the craze and has made it to many of the to-do lists during gatherings with friends these days.
Recently, my dearest university friends (one crazy and super fun bunch) and I made our way to LOST SG @ Peace Centre. Location wise it was pretty convenient especially since it is right in the heart of Singapore (town area) and hence not too far for those who reside in the extreme ends like me.
First and foremost, here are some little pointers for first-timers:
1. Forget about your phone or even the idea of bringing a calculator/pen&paper along, all personal belongings have to be kept in the lockers provided. This is to allow everyone to put in their 100% attention on the task at hand with no distraction!
(& yes, they do conduct a check for any prohibited items before you're allowed to challenge a room)
2. Dress comfortably! Avoid mini/tight skirts so that you can move around easily.
3. Need to answer the call of nature? No worries! You can excuse yourself to head off to the washroom during the game. No need to hold it in all the way! Just simply push the intercom to inform the staff and they will usher you back in after to join the rest.
4. Stuck halfway through with no idea on how to progress with the game? No problem! Just request for clues anytime via the intercom. The staff are really friendly and approachable so don't be shy/afraid to ask!
So! Moving on... to my experience...
Just a brief background, I've been to other Escape Games before but it was my first time challenging the ones at LOST SG.
At LOST SG, my friends and I took on the challenge of the rooms EXODUS & ALCATRAZ!
"Enslaved and oppressed with forced labor, life as an Israelite in Egypt was tough and difficult. Often beaten up and yelled at, it was not long before the Israelites lost all hope and fell into despair. On a scorching afternoon, a mysterious stranger came to town. An Israelite by birth, he demanded the Pharaoh to release his people from slavery. That moment changed the fate of the Israelites.
It took long before the Pharaoh relented. And on that fateful night, they followed him as the new leader and made their way out of Egypt; hearts filled with hope and joy. Regretting his decision shortly, the Pharaoh made his chariot ready and took an army with him to give chase.
The fight for freedom has been long and hard, can they escape the clutches of the Pharaoh?
When all hope seems lost, a man appears and promises to lead us to a place we can truly call home. A long journey it has been, will we get the future we yearned for?"
Difficulty level: 5/6
Maximum capacity: 12 players
Game duration: 60 minutes
I should not and most definitely do not want to be revealing spoilers about the task that needs to be completed so let me just cut to the chase - THIS ROOM IS AMAZING!
The EXODUS room uses clever technology, playing with lasers and lights in various interesting ways. It is sure to impress everyone, even the non-first-timers!
To solve the puzzle, you are required to have good observational skills, some background information on the story line and above all, teamwork. Here is a little tip: everything in the room, no matter how big or small, has to be taken into consideration.
Sadly, we weren't able to complete the room before the hour mark :(
"Alcatraz Island prison housed the most dangerous felons in America during its operation from 1934 to 1963. Surrounded by hazardous currents of the San Francisco Bay, no inmate was thought to have ever successfully escaped the maximum-security facility. One fine morning, wardens discovered the disappearance of 3 inmates. Did the inmates make it out of Alzatraz Island braving the unforgiving currents or did they perish into the dark waters of San Francisco Bay? Relive and uncover the last momnets of the inmates and take on the journey to escape from Alcatraz using your analytical thinking, logical reasoning and observational skills.
Will you succeed or will you succumb to the hands of fate?
From the very beginning, we were all in this together and we swore to leave no man behind. Unfortunately, things often don't go as planned, leaving us without a choice."
Difficulty level: 4.5/6
Maximum capacity: 12 players
Game duration: 60 minutes
I've been to see the actual Alcatraz Island prison at San Francisco and I've always thought that it was haunted for some reason. I guess abandoned buildings these days are always interpreted as being super creepy and "unclean". Anyways, I thought that this room would be horror-based but thank god it's not!
Slightly different from other rooms, this one requires your mates to be split into 3 groups to solve the puzzle separately before coming back together as a group to brainstorm!
As compared to EXODUS, I personally felt that the room ALCATRAZ was much more straightforward and hence, likely explaining the lower difficulty level. Nevertheless, it was thrilling to experience being locked up and trying to escape!
In the end, we managed to escape with still 10 minutes left to spare! There was honestly this huge sense of accomplishment for that, especially after not being able to complete EXODUS within an hour.
Special thanks to my friends for making the whole experience an amazing one!
Love you guyssss <3
Some reviews from my dear mates whom I challenged the rooms with:
"Well thought puzzles that challenge both the intellect and observational skills.
Great place for team bonding!"
"Definitely one of the best ways to bond with a bunch of awesome friends.
Making use of everyone's strength and problem solving skills, group work was inevitable.
Plus! It's funny to see friends screaming at the smallest things that was just in our own head."
With great appreciation, I would also like to thank LOST SG for hosting us! Thank you Valencia and Brandon for being so welcoming and friendly!
I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try out the other rooms!
