Vanity Reveal + Makeup Favourites/Routine 2016!

34
HEY Y'ALL!

Hope that everyone has had an amazing Christmas over the looong weekend!
Well, I know I did.

Yes, I'm doing a vanity reveal today! Super excited to be sharing this with you guys. It has been one of the most suggested/requested post and since last year I've decided to do a yearly makeup routine update here, I thought why not just combine both into one! Hurrah~

If you haven't check out 2015's or wanna compare product changes, click here

And I'm predicting that this post is gonna be really long because you know me, I brag a lot when I talk about makeup. So go grab a sandwich or a drink or a cushion and get comfortable!

Ready? Let's go.
Without further ado, let me just introduce a small section of my cave!

So my vanity was build from scratch by my dad early this year and love love love it!

My vanity is made up of two shelves that I got from IKEASuper love the top shelf that is transparent so I can put my favourite palettes on display and admire them every single day. Awwww~

The white base shelf was an upgrade from my previous vanity because I needed more storage. Not complaining, just reasoning why I had to get more space to store my makeup gems.

Makeup has only been in my heading-out routine for at most only a year actually (before that I only do so for occasions) but I'm pretty amazed by how much makeup I own. I guess to most girls out there, you would totally understand. It's like one day you decide to venture into makeup and suddenly the next time you look you realize that the amount of makeup had multiplied.

Lights and mirror are also from IKEA. Just in case any reader is interested to get something similar, do note that the lights do not come with any wires so you have to wire the whole thing by yourself. I'm so lucky that my dad is super handy with such stuff.

Oh and for anyone who is thinking that white is a bad idea for a makeup table, you don't know that makeup remover works wonders.

Needing some organizers to sort out your makeup?
Get them cheap at Daiso!

Have a lip cream obsession like me? Here's a tip on how to store them.

Grab a glass jar of the right size and simply put the gems on display! I got this inspiration from Youtuber Jaclyn Hill's beauty room tour (check it out here). She stored her lip creams in a huge candy jar but obviously something that huge is not practical for me.

So I settled for something similar. I got this jar from Japan Home, can't remember how much it costs exactly but it was definitely less than SGD$10. It's a simple display and its so easy to pick out the colour I want.

EYESHADOW PEEKS...

So... Eyeshadow palettes have been a huge thing for me for the past few months and I've got some requests to lay some thoughts on specific palettes. So since I'm having a vanity reveal, I shall spill some opinions on some palettes I own.

Let's start with the more neutral ones...

URBAN DECAY Naked Basics
URBAN DECAY Naked Smoky Palette
KAT VON D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette

I've reviewed about the smoky palette before (click here to check it out) and it's still one of my most fav palettes ever. I go for the smoky look whenever I have a shoot and the palette really works its magic with its dark colours + shimmers.

Kat Von D takes a spot because the neutral colours are really useful for blending out edges.

& of course, the Naked Basics which was also my very first eyeshadow palette. The shades are perfect for a first-timer because you can't really go wrong with those colours.

BH COSMETICS
Be... By BubzBeauty

Absolute fan of baby Issac & of course Lindy a.k.a BubzBeauty here! When she first announced the release of her eyeshadow palette, I ordered mine immediately on the spot.

Lindy has always been such a huge inspiration and her kindness never fail to touch me. I love her makeup videos and her vlogs. Especially when she touches on really sensitive life topics, her big heart really amazes me.

The thing that made me really love this palette is how personal it was designed by her. And of course the shades. The gorgeous shades. I use the shades 'grateful', 'genuine' and 'able' the most so far. Some shades can be found in other palettes but the shade 'genuine' definitely stands out to me.

Despite the fact that the palette is going off at a really cheap and affordable price, the eyeshadow quality is pretty good. They are really pigmented and payoff is good. Colours wise I use most of the shades and leave those like dark purple for special days.

The palette doesn't come with a brush though. Material wise, I feel that it's slightly easy to dirty so do take extra care if you have a certain level of OCD like me, especially since the palette is designed with a light colour.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION
Fortune Favours The Brave

If you've been following my beauty features, you would know that I got a lot of my makeup from PUCKERSG. This palette that they brought in is the most diverse one I've ever seen and own and has got really good reviews on forums and on youtube.

30 different shades from creamy matte to sheen to metallic, it can be used from subtle everyday looks to dramatic. The set is actually pretty small so the brush is also small. Meaning you've got to really build up the colours by layers.

I got this when I was still clumsy with eyeshadow so this was a saviour because the need to buildup makes things much easier.

Personally, I feel that this is a must have for every single makeup guru out there!

TOO FACED
The Chocolate Shop
(limited edition Christmas edition)

Just in time for Christmas! This was the latest palette I got and boy, I think my money was so well spent. I have only tried it out once for Christmas and I'm loving shimmers. Easily hopping up the ranks as one of my most fav palettes of all time!

Pigmentation wise, I think it's pretty clear from the picture. Quality is excellent. Well, it's not surprising from Too Faced. I think I can easily say that pigmentation is the best out of all the palettes I own.

And... that's all for eyeshadow palettes!

Comparing the quality and colours for all the palettes I've mentioned, 'Be...' by Bubzbeauty definitely tops for everyday looks. For shoots, the Urban Decay 'Smoky Palette' and Too Faced 'Chocolate Shop' for occasions.

I've got quite a few more that I rarely or haven't tried out yet so maybe I'll save those for next time. Those include the Too Faced 'Cat Eyes' and Urban Decay's 'Shadow Box' and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' palettes.

As usual, I would review if requested ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And...
Lets take a look at other absolute favs for this year!

URBAN DECAY
Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray

I got this about 1 month back and I swear by it. I heard that this prep spray is pretty new and everyone (makeup gurus I mean) would know that Urban Decay's finishing spray is the bomb. Not many other brands spray can compare themselves to the one UD has got on the shelf.

I stumbled upon this other spray on the shelf when the finishing spray I wanted was out of stock (yeah, bummer). This saleslady at Sephora really recommended me to try this one instead and yes, it changed my life!

Okay, maybe that's a little too exaggerating.

This product leaves a really smooth and soft finishing. Not only before makeup, it can be used anytime: during your beauty regime or anytime when you feel that you need a little hydrating.

You know sometimes when you're supposed to be putting some creams etc before you go to bed? This spray has been my standby on lazy days. And mind you, I only have 1 before-sleep product that I use and I am still lazy sometimes. So I just pick this spray up and poof.

TOO FACED
Melted Liquefied Matte Long Wear Lipstick (Cool Girl)

I waited for this product for waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too long! And when it finally got here, it never disappoint. I've been a huge fan of the normal 'Melted' lip cream series and I've been waiting for the matte one for more than half a year. No joke. Ever since I saw the release on Too Faced's Instagram, I was waiting since day 1 for it to come to Singapore.

Up till today, I have only seen this shade from the matte series ONCE. And yes, that was the time when I bought it with zero hesitation. It was the last one in stock and I do still check even after I got my hands on it and I have never seen it in stores ever again.

Needless to say, it's amazing. The 'Melted' series has always been on the little pricey side but I've always felt that the quality is really really worth it. Unlike most lip creams, this one sits on your lips with ultra staying power and it doesn't leave your lips dry at all.

And of course, I had to get the nude shade. Before I found this shade in stock for the first time, I got the shades 'Drop Dead Red', that I used for my Halloween look (check it out, click here!) and 'Queen B'.

Too Faced really upped the game with the matte series. No regrets spending on this gem!

KAT VON D
Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Bow n Arrow)

COLOURPOP
Ultra Matte Lip cream (Trap)

2 more for lip creams. These two shades are outstanding from the pile. Quality wise, every single makeup guru knows that Colourpop's quality is amazing for it's affordable price.

Kat Von D's everlasting lip creams have also been in the spotlight ever since it hit Sephora's shelves and most of them have been sold out at a pretty fast rate. I think 'Bow n Arrow' is the best shade from the series.

These two easily last through long days and they are dark and bold but aren't that stand out which I love.

Up to date, I have not tried the Kylie lip kit so... maybe saving that for a later time.

LANEIGE
Two Tone Shadow Bar (No. 2 Golden Rose)

I don't really go for products from too expensive brands but this little present I got from my mom definitely deserves a praise.

Lousy at applying/blending eyeshadows? This shadow bar applies 2 layers together upon application. All that needs to be done after that is to just blend out the edges and tada! Only 10 seconds needed for both eyes. What better product for a busy/lazy person like me?

-FOUNDATION-
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (Medium 2, Santa Fe)

Alright hold up. I forgot to include this other gem in my favourites. NARS is definitely not a cheap brand and it's more pricey than the BB cushion I was using from LANEIGE previously. But it was probably the best buy I've got. I've heard/seen so many good reviews about this product (or the luminous weightless one) so I thought I had to try it.

Super long lasting with good coverage. This foundation is the reason why I can simply skip my concealer step most of the times. The sheer glow foundation offers half coverage while the luminous weightless foundation offers full.

Comparing NARS sheer glow with my old LANEIGE BB cushion from 2015, NARS is a clear win for both staying power and coverage.
